SHAKER CARD taught by Jean Baden-Gillette & MaryAnn Schblein-Dawson  NOT RATED

These are called “shaker cards” because you can put something inside that moves when you shake it. Jean will teach this fun to make card with a 3-D window that can be filled with beads, seeds, sand and/or flat origami models. Participants must be comfortable using an exact-o knife or cutting neatly with small scissors. A materials fee of $4.00 will be collected in class.

SONOBE MODULAR taught by Vernon Isaac LOW INTERMEDIATE

If you have never made a modular before, this is a good place to start. The Sonobe unit is one of the most basic of all modules and can be used to make 6, 12, 30, 90 and 270 unit models. But don’t get nervous, Vernon will be teaching the 12-piece version and he’s an excellent teacher. Vernon will also show you how to move on to the 30-piece for those who are interested. Try it, you’ll like it!

FUSE MODELS taught by Maria Velazquez INTERMEDIATE

Come fold an assortment of Fuse models with Maria! Begin with a box with an interesting cover and then move on to a few tato/envelope models. All make lovely “containers” for little gifts or messages for that special someone.

KALEIDOSCOPE FLOWER IN BOTTLE taught by Katherine Riley INTERMEDIATE

Perhaps you have seen this clever idea where you can take an empty soda bottle and cut it to create the perfect container for an origami model. Katherine has and she is ready to show you how (she’s been saving the bottles for this class!)  She will also teach the cool modular rotating Kaleidoscope Flower created by Inoue & Amimoto—just put it in the clear container and you have a great gift. Katherine will teach other simple 3-D modulars if time permits. Sign me up!

SWAN taught by Alfred Kwan

HIGH INTERMEDIATE

Alfred will teach Joseph Wu’s elegant swan folded from a square. Although it is not wet-folded, this three-dimensional model has a beautiful sculpted look with a slender neck and “fluffy” wings. Fold a few and make a whole family of swans to impress your friends.

Sunday, April 6, 2008 - Afternoon (2:30pm - 5pm)

AFRICAN VIOLET taught by John Blackman

LOW INTERMEDIATE

Did you see John’s flowers at the base of the Holiday Tree in the museum? He will be teaching the African Violet that was one of the plants on display. Using florist tape and wire, John will teach you how to put together the flower and leaves into a realistic plant that will cheer up any room (just make sure no one waters it!) A materials fee of $4.00 will be collected in class.

DANDELION BOX taught by Deanna Kwan & Emily Sue Kwan LOW INTERMEDIATE

Deanna and Emily Sue will teach this lovely decorative lid that fits nicely on a masu box. The decorated top looks like a “full circular fan” that will really show off the patterned papers that will be used for this class. Make one and use it for a gift box for a special Mother’s Day present!

INTRODUCING FEDERICO SCALAMBRA PART 1 taught by Jan Polish INTERMEDIATE

Federico Scalambra is a young Italian creator who’s come up with some delightful, ingenious abstract animals and objects.  Jan will teach his owl, elephant and dog. We’re so sure you’re going to like these, Jan is teaching more of his models in May. Each class can be taken independently.

HOLLYHOCK taught by Rachel Katz        INTERMEDIATE

Just in time for spring, create this lovely kusudama (flower ball) using merely six squares! This Mark Morden model is quite straightforward until the clever twist at the end of each module. The six modules interlock superbly. If time permits Rachel will teach some other springtime models.

DUCKS & SHIPS CROSSING taught by Seth Friedman

HIGH INTERMEDIATE

This is a great action model created by Herman van Goubergen. It’s a blue ocean or pond that you place ducks or ships on and then the action in the model makes them “swim” or “float” to the opposite side of the paper.  Seth will teach this model that’s as much fun to fold as it is to make.  See if you can come up with other models that can be set adrift!
