Convention is a great way to get together with fellow enthusiasts for events and activities beyond those provided as part of the convention! On this page, you can find activities organized by members for members to take place at Convention. If you've got an announcement, send it to the website team via website [at] origamiusa.org and we'll add it to this list.

Sok Song Teaching at Kinokuniya on Friday

Sok Song will be teaching origami to the public and signing his book, Crease + Fold and issues of Creased Magazine, at Kinokuniya Bookstore on Friday, June 22 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Kinokuniya Bookstore is located at 1073 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. Stop by on your way to Convention!

Artist Trading Card Swap

Tamara Read will be organizing the 2012 Artist Trading Card swap at the Origami Convention. She writes:

This year will be the seventh Artist Trading Card swap at the OUSA NY convention. If you are interested in participating in the Trading card swap please find instructions below:

Please send cards in sets of 26 in return you will receive 25 traded cards and one title card that will allow the extra card for display at convention and will not be returned to you. You will not be limited to the number of sets you can make but I ask that each set have a different design.

Please email me at tamread [at] yahoo.com and let me know if you will be participating in the swap and if so the number of sets you will be making. A few participants in the past have asked to know how many participants will be involved (to prepare to make enough sets to exchange with everyone making cards) and this will give me a better idea of how many cards (or sets) I can suggest making to those who are ambitious enough for a goal of being able to swap with everyone.

Please mail or prepare your cards in sets of 26 in a plastic zip-lock bag with YOUR NAME PRINTED (Clearly) on the bag. If you would like your cards mailed back to you please print your address and place it in the same zip-lock bag. Please place your cards in INDIVIDUAL plastic sleeves to protect your hard work and to ensure they are not damaged when swapped (or mailed).

DROP OFF: If you are going to drop off the cards I will be in the exhibition area at 7PM on Friday night until it closes. If you are not able to drop off the cards on Friday June 22, 2012 in the convention room please mail them to me at:

Tamara Read
OUSA ATC
28 Hubbard Place
Brooklyn, NY 11210

As soon as your package is received you will receive an email as confirmation of delivery.

The cards should be received by June 18th to ensure that they will be included in the swap. Please allow time for delivery. I will do my best to make sure any cards received by June 22, 2012 are swapped.

  • All cards must be 2.5 inches x 3.5 inches
  • All trading cards must have origami on them or be folded (letter fold that results in an 2.5 x 3.5 fold)
  • Please put the name of the person folding/created the origami and an email address (or snail mail) If you would like to add the following please feel free to do so:
    • A number (1/26, each card assigned its own number)
    • Designer of the model that was used on the card
    • County/City of where you live
    • Title of Card.
    • Date

Talo Kawasaki has generously offered to both help out this year and to take over the swap next year. He has agreed to join me in the collection of cards on Friday night so for those dropping off your cards, please introduce yourself.
