OrigamiUSA members will have the opportunity to participate in Convention 2017, even if they can't attend: Remote Classes! Using an online virtual class technology, you will be able to join selected classes remotely via the internet, with the option to ask questions of the instructor and interact with the other class attendees, as in on-site classes.

When you register for a Remote class, you will receive an email with details, guidelines and instructions on how to attend the class. You will need a computer connected to the Internet and a browser that supports the web-conferencing platform (test instructions will be included in the email).

Remote classes have a $5 fee for each class and are available only to members of OrigamiUSA.

  • Online registration for Remote Classes is now closed.

Here are the classes that will be available:

Saturday

10:00–11:45
Taiwan Goldfish by Robert Lang
Level: High Intermediate
This is a relatively simple fish but does have a couple of closed sinks. We'll learn it from foil, but it wet-folds nicely.

2:00–2:45
Cheeky Monkey by Enrique Martinez, taught by Jim Weir
Level: Intermediate
An easy and fun little monkey that you'll want to keep on folding.

3:00–3:45
Triangle Flap Box by Mette Pederson
Level: Simple
The Triangle Flap Box is folded from three sheets of paper.

4:00–4:45
Boats, Cars, and Planes by Joel Stern
Level: Simple
Models of vehicles are often too advanced for beginning folders. These three models—a sailboat, car, and airplane (2 sheets)—can each be folded in less than 10 minutes. Folding them will teach you simple techniques such as making a pinch mark to establish a landmark, 3D shaping, and reverse-folds.

Sunday

10:00–11:45
Waterbomb 3.4.6.4 by Alessandro Beber
Level: Complex
This tessellation is an unusual one because it is not based on a common grid of squares or triangles. Instead, it is based on a 3.4.6.4 pattern, unusual and challenging but very interesting to fold. Some experience in folding tessellations and precreasing crease patterns may be useful. No need to prepare a grid in advance. We will prepare all the necessary creases before collapsing the model.

2:00–2:45
Simple Robot by Jason Ku
Level: Simple
We will fold a simple robot from a square.

3:00–3:45
Kitten by Daniela by Daniela Carboni
Level: Intermediate
This intermediate kitten has lots of fun reverse folds. Simple 3D modeling is applied on the head.
