cranes

Last year OrigamiUSA asked our membership to fold cranes for the 10th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, 2001. You out did yourselves and we received over 17,000. On September 10th, 2011 we delivered 5,000 cranes packaged in clear envelopes to the Tribute WTC Visitor Center. These cranes were distributed on the anniversary to the families of those who died. The remaining 12,000 cranes that we received were sent to the Tribute Center later in the year and were distributed to visitors to the Tribute Center.

The Tribute Center continued to distribute the cranes as long as they had them and in March they contacted us once again. The cranes were so popular with visitors they have asked if we could send more. OrigamiUSA has a number of projects in the works right now and we do not have the resources to act as the collection location. The Tribute Center has agreed to have the cranes mailed directly to them.

The Tribute Center receives visitors from around the world and during the summer is the peak tourist season in New York. They are hoping to have enough cranes for visitors, schools groups and the anniversary in September. We would like to encourage you to send cranes, made from 6 inch paper of any kind, beginning now until August 31, 2012. Send your cranes to:
