Date and time
Oct. 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Level
Complex
Teacher
Daniel Scher
As featured in the origami film “Between the Folds,” you saw Chris Palmer fold a giant version accompanied by a squirrel. In this class, there will be no small mammals. Daniel will teach this unpublished model that has no sinks or color changes but is challenging nonetheless. It is a multi-tiered geometric design that can be collapsed, like all of Chris’s Flower Towers.

Twirly 3D Polyhedra

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Art Liem
Krystyna Burczyk’s twirly 3D polyhedra add a creative touch to “regular” polyhedra. Using twirls to interlock units of 6, 8, 12 or more, these models have a sense of flair and character. Bring a straight edge or other small tool to twirl the paper. You’ll make two models, each 6 sided but students are free to make models with more sides.

Cleverly Constructed Containers

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Teacher
Tricia Tait
The pleasure is not only in the gift-giving but in the folding as well. Join Tricia as she shows you her favorite containers that are ingeniously designed, with surprising and interesting folding sequences. She will teach some 2-piece boxes, a tray, a tote bag and a takeout box. Completely sold out at Convention, this class is sure to please.

Teacher
Kathy Alsegaf
Can you see the forest through the trees? Fold a number of different trees and combine them with an alpine backdrop. Time permitting, you may fold a few forest friends to liven up the landscape. Color combinations will be touched upon in terms of providing depth and interest to the scene.

Halloween Horrors

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Carole VerEecke
Start off the holiday season with a boo! Carole will teach a variety of seasonal goodies from Steve and Megumi Biddle’s “Horrigami” book. These will include an owl and fangs, but other scary stuff will be taught until the bell tolls 12:30. Use these frightening models to decorate your house or to “deaden” any party.

Teacher
Jan Polish
Call it Pierrot, call it Bozo the clown, call it anything you like, it’s a wonderful 3D clown face by the always ingenious Seiji Nishikawa. One sheet of duo creates a clown face with red features; the other sheet makes either delightful hair/ruffle collar or different hair/hat. Send in the clowns!

Eek! Mice!

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Marcio Noguchi
You’ll be standing on the table when you see this cute, realistic, 3-D mouse created by Masashi Tanaka. Marcio will teach this delightful model and then an additional Tanaka mouse with a triangular body and a zigzag tail that makes it scoot across the floor. Eek!

3 Unit Flower

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Leon Bernhardt
Based on Robert Lang’s $3 Flower, Leon will teach his own variations as well as the original. He will demonstrate how simple changes and variations in a unit can drastically alter the overall pattern of the final model. Come and learn how to look at patterns in different ways. Limited to 10 students.

Tree

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Ros Joyce
This wonderful and fun model is an attractive, three dimensional, tiered tree. Graduated layers are added and fit into each other, providing many places to attach small individual models as ornaments. This 40 plus year old model from Jessie Seto’s archived treasures was a hit at this year’s Convention exhibition. Limited to 12 students.

Autumn Fun

Date and time
Oct. 4, 2008 at 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM
Level

Teacher
Marcia Joy Miller
Marcia will show you how to make three of her original action models that are perfect for the season. Just in time for Halloween, you will fold Flapping Bat; to celebrate the fall migration of birds you will make Flapping Finch.
