2011 Dodecahedral Calendar

This 12-faced 3-D geometric is made from Nick Robinson’s A4 Rhombic Module. Bob will provide paper printed with the 12 months of 2011 and you’ll fold a rhombic dodecahedron (it’s not as difficult as it sounds) from the 12 pieces to make a beautiful and functional calendar for your desk at work or home. Shumakov Cat

Katrin Shumakov’s adorable 3-D kitten is a High Intermediate model, but here is your chance to learn it in a smaller group setting. Rachel will teach at an intermediate level to provide practice with the “color changes” that are often used in more complex models. As a bonus, you’ll also fold the kitten’s bowl. Class limit: 10

Kathryn will teach containers beyond the Masu Box. She will teach several containers of different shapes and at least one specific to CDs or DVDs. Most will be folded with paper but at least one will be out of fabric. She will demonstrate the fabrigami technique with foil and fabric, and the class will fold using treated fabric. Materials fee: $2

Three Times the Fun

Framed Cube

This model is also known as the Decorative Cube. There are a number of variations, including color changes, by different creators. Nathan will guide you through the simple units and the intermediate assembly. He will discuss various color schemes (1, 2, 3 or 6). The model can be folded out of 2:1 rectangles but also squares. There is a high wow-factor to this impressive model.

Dragons

Get the “base”-ics of dragon morphology with Mark, the master of origami dragons. He will teach Edwin Corrie’s Dragon from a fish base, Eric Joisel’s from a blintzed fish base, and Josef Zsebe’s from a half bird base/half frog base. Let your imagination soar with these fantastic creatures, then rush home and wet-fold some more.

Carmen Sprung Models

Arlene will start with the delightful eight-piece Stern Veronika. Best made from duo paper, the resulting star looks almost like a patchwork quilt with many layers. Precision folding is necessary and the assembly can be tricky. Arlene will teach two variations and more starts as time permits.

Splendid Santas

Personalize your holiday season with Santas on your tree, gifts, doors, cards and more. Carole will teach two models of Santa’s face, a number of full Santas and even one on a sled getting ready to deliver. She will also demonstrate how to make your creations into versatile decorations which will include suggested paper size and stock for each project. Everyone will go home with an ornament. So get your holiday creative juices flowing for this festive class.

Snapology

Learn Heinz Strobl’s technique of using strips of paper wrapped around each other to make an icosahedron. Instead of strips of paper, Faye will provide ½” shiny ribbon. Faye will also describe how to use the technique to make other polyhedra. Faye has taught the technique in San Francisco, New York, Philadelphia, and even Singapore! If you like modular origami, you are sure to like this technique.

Free Form Sculpture

Aldo will be teaching a free form technique to be used in art sculptures made out of paper in 3 dimensions. Start with a single crease and let a 3-D form emerge from your hands as you fold and flow from there. Different stands for your sculptures will also be taught. Time to get creative!
