Lillian's First Lesson
Lillian Oppenheimer was famous for teaching beginners and encouraging them to continue in origami. She developed her First Lesson using models that are easy to teach and easy to fold, and which increased origami skill-building and self-esteem. In this class, Toby will teach you the simple models Lillian loved and show you the best ways to teach them to others.
Potato Chip Bag Purse
Go green and recycle! Use potato chip bags to make this gum-wrapper style unit and the possibilities are endless. Students will learn the various techniques needed to make a small purse, including design charting, zipper installation, and finishing. Obviously, there will not be enough time to make enough units during class to complete a purse, but perhaps you can make a bracelet instead. Feel free to bring any clean chip bags you may already have. Start recycling now!
Cherry Blossom Celebration
Although in Japan cherry blossoms are considered a reminder of the impermanence of life, these origami blossoms will last a long time indeed. Deb will teach you a variety of them, including a one-piece flower with a puffy center (great for jewelry), a 5-piece party tray, and an easy one-piece model that is suitable for ATC or greeting cards. You’ll get to practice making pentagons from squares.
Standing Rabbit
Here’s a standout among lapines! This delightful rabbit is definitely not just a bunny. Let Marcio take you through a clever folding sequence that includes some sinks and collapses and you’ll end up with a spectacular model. There are wonderful color change effects for a cotton-tail, the inside of the ears and a tuft on the breast.
Family Fun in April
Wendy will teach a variety of action models including some that spin, slide and fly. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. Each Family Fun class will be different; take one or take them all! No experience is necessary. For children ages 8 and up.
Wreath with Bow
Get festive with a lovely wreath with a pretty bow! Sandy will teach this 18-piece Mette unit wreath and then top it off with a lovely bow. This combines a great modular fold with the perfect model to include on a card for any occasion. Or make a larger one to decorate a package!
Basic Snapology
From New York to Singapore, Faye has taught Snapology all over the world. So what IS Snapology? It is Heinz Strobl’s technique of using strips of paper wrapped around each other to make an icosahedron, which are then connected to others. Instead of paper strips, Faye uses shiny ribbon. If you like modular origami, you’ll love this technique.
Twist Star Box
Arlene will teach this delightful one-piece box with a lovely star twist on the top. How does it open? It has a clever set of flaps that tuck into each other to create a closing lock on the bottom! It’s the perfect place to hide a precious treasure or gift for a friend (assuming they can figure out how to open it).
Stegosaurus
Recreate your very own Jurassic park starting with this realistic stegosaurus. A classic among favorite dinosaur models, this steggie features armored plates and tail spikes. Not to worry; Mark will be your guide through the double sinks and inside reverse folds. Thirty years after its first publication, this John Montroll model is a classic that always delivers. Precision folding is a must.
