Family Fun - Fall Models
Mary Ann will teach some lovely models that are great to celebrate the Fall season. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For children ages 8 and up.
Ice Cream Cone Variations
How many flavors of ice cream are there? How many variations can you make from an origami ice cream cone base? Come and explore your imagination as Toshiko guides you with suggestions to unleash the origami creator inside that is ready to burst forth. Be the origami creator you always wanted to be.
Fuse Wreaths
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And anyone who sees these fantastic modular wreaths will find them beautiful. Alice will teach an 8-piece wreath which highlights the designs on duo paper. Use gorgeous patterned and textured paper for the 16-piece wreath that she will also teach. Both wreaths have incredibly strong locks. However, using them as Frisbees is not recommended.
Star Puff Box
Puff Daddy is in the room! This box is truly the “big daddy” of the traditional Magic Puff Stars made from a narrow strip of paper. This much bigger box is made from a rectangle. Strong, firm and accurate creases are necessary to make this box attain its “puffed” appearance, so students are urged to bring a bone folder to class. The finished mega puff star also makes a stunning ornament.
Owl
Whoooo’s the boss? Daniel is, and he will show you all the tricks to make this adorable 3D owl by Joseph Wu. The fun begins with lots of pre-creases and then, halfway through the folding sequence, it becomes three dimensional. None of the individual folds are difficult, but you should be comfortable folding in the air and visualizing folds on paper that is not flat. Parliament (of owls) is in session.
Thanksgiving Turkey & Containers
Don’t let your guests gobble up all the turkeys on the table! Use Laura’s ingenious Turkey Napkin Holder for each place setting and there will be plenty of turkey for Thanksgiving. She will also teach a variety of useful and attractive containers that can be used for any occasion. A hallmark of Laura’s creations is her meticulous folding sequences, all designed to guarantee success and satisfaction.
Pets in the Moonlight
The name says it all. Celebrate your love of pets by moonlight with these four cute models. Carole will lead you through some reverse folds to create a Sleepy Dog, a Crouching Cat, the traditional Blow-Up Turtle, and the always fun Man-In-The-Moon. Students should be comfortable with inside and outside reverse folds.
Carmen Sprung's Stern Saya
Origami can be quite addictive. But you all knew that already. Modulars in particular, are very compelling. Modular stars however, are even more spell-binding. There is an infinite number of ways to mix and match papers to form kaleidoscopic patterns when you fold the Stern Saya. This 8-piece star features simple units made out of 2:1 rectangles which double lock together for a model that simply will not fall apart.
Curlicue
What wicked wacky fun with Wendy. Get all twisty with Assia Brill’s Curlicue model, which was all the rage at the latest Centerfold convention. The model is folded from long tapered strips of paper whose sides are not parallel. The finished Curlicue moves and is as much fun to fold as it is to play with. Wendy will share the “twist fix” method which she learned from Assia.
Max Hulme’s Conifer
Don’t get lost in the forest! Donna will guide you through and lead you to safety as you create your very own forest or holiday display. The model is folded from five graduated squares plus a trunk. As a bonus, Donna will also teach a matching planter basket in case you want an indoor tree. Pine scent not included.
