Students should bring AT LEAST two books that are hard cover, fabric covered (just remove the dust jacket), approximately 5” by 7” and between 150-250 pages. Keep in mind that these books will no longer be readable, so don’t bring anything valuable! A materials fee of $3 will be collected in class.

Tea Bag Folding

Date and time
Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Level

Teacher
Toshiko Kobayashi

Don’t throw out that teabag! It’s paper and you can fold with it! Let Toshiko show you all the joys of tea. Put those teabag wrappers to good use after you’ve had your cuppa. Use them to create lovely modulars that capitalize on the printed designs. Students will be encouraged to explore their own ideas and techniques to create their own variations. Since many teabags retain the delicate aroma of the tea, you’ll definitely engage all your senses in this fun class.

Boxes

Date and time
Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Level
Intermediate
Teacher
Donna Walcavage

Good things definitely come in small packages! Start off by learning Makoto Yamaguchi’s modern classic: the prism box, an elegant and extremely classy way to present a small treasure. Continue with his delightful Santa Box; stuff Santa’s “sack” with tasty treats. Donna will also show you how some simple tweaks can turn it into a wizard box which you can fill with magic charms.

12-piece Ishibashi Ball

Date and time
Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Level
High Intermediate
Teacher
Doug Caine

Who says you can’t create your own origami? Ishibashi was inspired by the Sonobe unit and created an iconic modular. Now Doug Caine has further added his own variations. First, he turns the “frill” inside-out to display both sides of the paper. Then he uses 12 squares instead of six to change the original cube into a ball. Be forewarned though, the assembly is challenging. As Doug says, “the model is sturdy when complete, but before then, it can fall apart if you look at it funny!” Don’t worry, he’ll be there to help.
