Family Fun– Action Models
Origami models that move are always fun! Join Wendy to make origami that jumps, flies, and spins. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For children ages 8 and up. Adults without children are also welcome!
African Violet
Spring has sprung! Even if you have a black thumb, John the master origami florist, will teach this lovely pot of African violets that you’ll only have to dust and not water. It’s easy to get these simple paper versions to “bloom.” John will also show you how to wire them, connect them to leaves, and place them in an origami flower pot for full effect. Limited to 10 attendees.
Vase of Wealth
See the magic of origami in action: with the alteration of a single fold, you can come up with numerous different vases. This classic model by Saburo Kase starts with a preliminary base. Depending on the angle at which you turn in the corners, you can get long, skinny vases, short squat vases, and anything in-between. Simply adjust according to your ikebana needs. Beautiful papers will be provided for you to explore all the possibilities.
Flower Model-cancelled
Origami IS art! This multi-piece flower and leaves can add a cheery accent to any art project. Attach the units to create a display and hang it on the wall to brighten any room. The model is mostly flat, but works best mounted for display rather than flattened in a card. More flower models if time permits.
Lightning and Angry Birds-cancelled
Get your game face on! No need to get frustrated if you don’t reach the next level in the video game. Just relax and fold a few Angry Birds. These original models by Ryan feature the clever use of color changes to highlight the duo paper used. A dark thunderhead with a brilliant bolt of lightning may be just the thing to express your feelings when you power up; forget emoticons.
Yoda
Awaken your own Force with this classic origami version of the iconic Jedi master designed by Fumiaki Kawahata. Let Yoda impart some of his wisdom which will include valley, mountain and reverse folds, along with petal folds, squashes and rabbit ears. It’s all part of the training and Kika will make sure you attain your knight status.
Favorite Models for Beginners
Every good origami teacher has a list of favorite models to teach beginners. Let Kathy share her favs with you. She’ll show you a way to make the traditional masu box so that it seems to fold itself. Of course, you will need something to put in the box, so why not aim a jumping frog into it? She’ll also teach a wallet and tissue flower, as time permits.
Complete Flower Arrangement
Express your everlasting love on Mother’s Day with this long-lasting arrangement! Rachel will teach this lovely arrangement also suitable as a small centerpiece or the ideal scent-free hospital gift. One rubber band and no cutting or glue is all you’ll need for this gorgeous design. Have fun mixing and matching your beautiful papers for that perfect look.
Fuse's KonpeitŌ
Here’s a mouthwatering design! Konpeitō is a traditional star shaped Japanese candy of Portuguese origin and this lovely kusudama was inspired by it. Mark will teach this as a 12 piece modular (but other constructions are possible). The units are intermediate level with one tricky step but the assembly is similar to those using the Sonobe unit. As time permits, he will also teach Fuse’s Star Cross.
Bracelets with Variations
Bring on the bling! You only need two sheets of 6 inch paper to create these fantastic fashion accessories. Faye will show you how to cut them into strips and weave them into these ingenious bracelets. Depending on the time, up to four variations will be taught. Spring is here, short sleeves are back, so show off your latest creations.
Pagoda Box
The origami gods are smiling! Wow your friends with these spectacular spiral boxes; they’ll be more impressed with the box than what you put in them. Precision folding is required for these boxes which require only 2 pieces of paper: one for the pagoda top and one for the bottom. A scoring tool and straight edge are helpful if you can bring them, but are not necessary. Have fun ascending to origami paradise.
