Family Fun – Favorite Models
Maria will teach an assortment of her favorite models that are fun and charming. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience is necessary. For children ages 8 and up. Adults without children are also welcome!
Panda
It may look like panda-monium, but this two-piece model created by Emiko Suzuki is not difficult to fold. Whether perched on the rim of a glass or stack atop one another, they are just too cute to resist. There are some fun squash folds but neatness is necessary to achieve symmetry. The class will make 3 pandas out of 3 different sized papers, perfect for stacking!
Halloween
Scary, scary night. Keep those pesky trick-or-treaters at bay with this collection of Halloween models. Bernice will teach the classic witch-on-a-broomstick, an elegant owl on a tree, a bat, a lantern, a ghost and more if time permits. No need to be afraid of a few reverse folds; Bernice will be there, even if she doesn’t hold your hand.
Convertible Bag
It’s a tote bag, it’s a handbag, it’s a beach bag, it’s a basket! Gay’s Convertible Bag does a quick-change act to convert from one look to the next. It’s really all you’ll ever need for accessorizing. Diagrams for Gay’s designs can be found in Marc Kirschenbaum’s book of models by American creators, Origami: Grandi Maestri Americani.
Yoda
Awaken your own Force with this classic origami version of the iconic Jedi master designed by Fumiaki Kawahata. Let Yoda impart some of his wisdom which will include valley, mountain and reverse folds, along with petal folds, squashes and rabbit ears. It’s all part of the training and Kika will make sure you attain your knight status.
Star Corona Grande and Robin Star
Let your creativity shine forth! These simple and elegant modular stars created by Maria Sinayskaya give you the opportunity to express yourself by mixing and matching colors and designs from your origami closet. Easy to fold and to assemble, they are the perfect introduction to the addictive world of modular. Your house will be filled with stars by nightfall.
The Magic of A4 Paper
Combine the magic of origami with the magic of A4 paper. Use the special mathematical properties and proportions of this international standard size paper (similar to letter size in North America) to make a variety of functional models. These include a wall box, leaf envelope, bamboo shoot, Nick Robinson’s Silver Half Cube, and a pyramid. Kathy will also discuss the properties of the A4 ratio, as well as fun ways to use each model for gifts or household use.
Decagonal Star (variation B)
Wow, wow, wow! These spectacular stars by Tomoko Fuse are sure to impress even your most jaded friends. Folded from 10 sheets of paper, Deb will show the basic module and guide you through the assembly of this stunning star and will discuss variations for the center lock. As a bonus, she will distribute 2-inch patterned Korean paper for you to practice at home. Students will be able to complete one model out of 3 or 6-inch paper during class. Precise folding is required.
Raccoon
Aaaaah! Is that raccoon rabid?!?!?! Aside from the striped tail, the face and eyes of this soon-to-published model practically scream “raccoon!” Of course, to achieve that thieving look, there are some ingenious color changes. Daniel will gladly help you tame this challenging model.
