One Sheet Wonder

It’s a wonder that MaryAnn finds all these awesome cards to share with us! The latest is an album made from one sheet of 12” x 12” scrapbooking cardstock which can then be decorated with other pretty papers and embellishments, including origami. There are 7 useable pages and a pocket for tucking in surprises, plus room on the front and back covers. Make one for that really special someone. A$3 fee will be collected in class.

Let your origami spirit shine forth with these stellar models from The Fold, OrigamiUSA’s online magazine. Paula will share with you her favorite stars, including the Color Duo Shifter Star. Made with 8 units, the model lies flat and can be used on a greeting card. Made with 7 units, the center pops into 3D, making it a great package decoration. More stars will be taught as time permits.

Let Gay help you invite good fortune with a Korean Good Luck Bag, which can be used as a gift bag, as well as a Good Fortune $ Asian Dragon of her own design. Please bring at least one fresh dollar bill to class.

Have a barrel of fun with this class! Kiko will teach this extremely expressive simian that you can pose any way you like. This monkey can be mischievous with its double preliminary and double bird bases, and multiple reverse folds. A folding tool such as an envelope opener would be useful if you would like to bring one.

La Fosse Butterflies

Stop frittering and start flittering with these fabulous flutterbys! A modern classic, these butterflies use Michael LaFosse’s ingenious butterfly base system to create an endless variety of stunning fliers. Kathy will teach Emiko’s Flittery and a Butterfly for Mara from both kami and tissue foil. This class will be taught at a pace that ensures that beginners can manage these low intermediate models.

Kawate Boxes

Pretty and practical; that’s the name of the game in this class. Mark will teach at least two of Ayako Kawate’s decorative boxes that will perk up any room. They can also be used as gift boxes. More will be taught as time permits. These models are definitely fun and functional.

Flexi-cube

Pick this up and you’ll never be able to put it down! A flexicube is a model which consists of 8 connected cubes and rotates endlessly between a 2 x 2 cube formation and a 2 x 4 rectangular formation. Invented in the 1980’s by Philip Noble, this neat toy uses a single, very long strip of paper. Faye will supply ticker-tape to practice and polypropylene ribbon for the final one. This is addictively fun to play with.

Five Interlocking Tetrahedra (fit)

Wow! That’s really the only word for this model. Five lacy tetrahedra interwoven to form a light and airy model, this Tom Hull creation was an instant hit. Now’s your chance to finally master the tricky assembly. Joy has a good method to ensure that your tetrahedral are correctly inserted into place. Neat and consistent folding of the 30 units is needed to guarantee that perfect FIT!

Rush home and rummage for that special paper you’ve been saving! Here’s a model by Angelika Schwenger that will inspire you to choose your papers with an eye toward the finished model. The box lid features a decorative knob or traube (grape), which is formed
by a series of tessellation-like moves. Therefore, precise folding is strongly encouraged.
