Family Fun-favorite Models
Are we having fun yet? You certainly will when you join Bernice, who will teach an assortment of favorite simple models. This class is a great opportunity for families to explore the magic of origami together. No experience necessary. For children ages 5 and up. Children ages 5 – 8 must be accompanied by an adult also registered to take the class. Adults not accompanying children are also welcome!
Pop-up Origami Cards
Want to make a great impression? This workshop will demonstrate techniques for making pop-up cards to present simple origami models. Students will be gluing, drawing, collaging, rubber-stamping etc. and can design their own cards with models they know. Participants may bring some pre-folded models (2-5” finished) or fold them during the workshop.
Shooting Spinning Star
Don’t get too dizzy! These fantastic action models will have you in a spin. This beautiful star-shaped spinner is made from a single sheet of square paper. Although fairly simple to fold, it does have an open sink. Other models start from an octagon tato base which requires some precise folding.
Butterfly Ball
Ever feel like destroying a modular!? Here’s your chance to learn the classic model previously known as the Butterfly Bomb. Twelve easy modules are assembled (with patience) to form a lovely geometric. Toss it in the air, give it a good smack and the modules will “explode” and cascade down like fluttering butterflies. Sure to elicit gasps of delight from your friends. Now put it together and do it again…and again!
Fuse Wreath
Time to dig out those wonderful packs of patterned paper! Alice will teach you two lovely wreaths by the Queen of Modulars, Tomoko Fuse. Both are made from 8 modules, the first is the same on both sides and the variation has two different sides. Three different looks for the price of 2! Perfect as holiday decorations and accents for gift packages.
Sandy's Wired Flower
Never needs watering and perpetually in bloom! This is an original creation by Sandy uses bird bases and the traditional lily. The compound flower is constructed on a wire base with bird base leaves. Knowledge of the bird base and the frog base is required. You don’t need a green thumb for this class, just folding fingers.
Pocket Origami
Passing notes has never been this fun. Maria will teach a variety of models that feature a small pocket where you can tuck a note or a coin. These will include a penguin, an ice cream cone, a heart and more as time permits. They can also be used to make great cards, gift decorations or table settings.
Lucky Kitty
Make your own luck. Maneki Neko aka Lucky Cat will bring you good fortune just by being so adorable, so very “kawaii” as the Japanese culture of all things cute is called. But you’ll have to earn it with this high intermediate model and be comfortable with accurate rabbit ear folds, shaping and an open sink. You will also fold simple eyes as a final touch. I feel lucky already!
