The 30-unit Poinciana. Folded from scrapbook paper and photographed by Meenakshi Mukerji. See PDF diagrams.

Editor’s note: Meenakshi Mukerji has just published “Exquisite Modular Origami III,” and to celebrate, she has sent us diagrams for Poinciana. This model can be constructed with either 12 or 30 units. Meenakshi recommends using heavy paper, such as scrapbook paper or something of construction-paper weight, and she notes that small clips are helpful during assembly. The diagrams show how to obtain the required rectangle from a square.

The book contains 36 models with variations. Most designs are by Meenakshi, with a few by Valentina Minayeva and Enrica Dray. A handful of the models were originally published in The Fold over the past four years. The book is available on Amazon.

The 12-unit Poinciana folded from 3-inch by 4.8-inch sheets to make a 5-inch-diameter model. The Tuttle duo paper was a bit too thin. Folded and photographed by Jane Rosemarin.
