Virtual Exhibition

Do you have lovely origami models that you would have brought to an in-person convention for an exhibition? We have a virtual exhibition in our Facebook Group where you can participate.

Please follow these steps to share your exhibition photos:

  • Join OrigamiUSA’s Facebook Group
  • Visit the “UnConvention 2020” Album
  • Upload your photos. Make sure that you include your name and that of the designer of the piece if you are not the designer.

We recommend that you upload your photos before the UnConvention begins on June 26.

40th Anniversary Design Challenge

The year 2020 marks OrigamiUSA's 40th convention anniversary! To celebrate, we are inviting our members to participate by creating a model that relates to the number 40.

Here are some guidelines:

  • This is just a challenge, NOT a competition.
  • Anyone is more than welcome to participate.
  • The photo of the model(s) that you submit must be your original design(s).
  • Please keep your entry “G-Rated”—suitable for all ages to view.

We have a virtual design challenge gallery in our Facebook Group where you can participate. Please follow these steps to share your entry:

  • Join OrigamiUSA’s Facebook Group
  • Visit the “40 Design Challenge” Album
  • Upload your photos. Make sure your photos best represent your model.

We recommend that you upload your photos before the UnConvention begins on June 26.

Meet the Presenters — Live Chat With Q & A

Missing social time? While we cannot offer the same one-on-one experience as the in-person convention, the social media team is offering a chance for you to ask questions and find out what the presenters have been up to since last year. These informal sessions, moderated by Stacy Grinsfelder, will last 45 minutes each. They will be held on Friday June 26, 2020. See schedule for details.

After-Party on Instagram Live

Join us for a low-key celebration of the first OrigamiUSA UnConvention on our Instagram account.

It will begin 30 minutes after the closing remarks on June 27, 2020 (approximately 10:15 PM EDT). More information to follow.

Artist Trading Card Swap

Introduction

Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are handmade sets of cards created by a group of artists who trade their cards amongst themselves, ending up with new sets of cards comprised of one card from each artist.

ATCs are 2.5 x 3.5 inches (64 x 89mm), the size of baseball trading cards. Origami ATCs have the added requirement of having origami on or as part of the card. In addition they should be able to fit in a trading card plastic sleeve, to protect the artwork, which limits the overall thickness.

Anyone who enjoys making ATCs may participate in this swap, but you must register no later than Wednesday, June 24. You will receive an email confirmation within 48 hours. Mail-in participation is limited to the Continental US.

Cards for this Fifteenth ATC (Un) Convention Swap will be on display at the OrigamiUSA Convention 2021 Exhibition.

Registration

To register, email Jean Baden-Gillette at PaperBerry [at] aol.com. Please include your name and email address (print clearly).

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, Jun 24, 2020.

If you are registered but for any reason need to cancel your participation, please contact Jean as soon as possible.

Cards: Making, Sending, Receiving

An official set consists of 18 cards, 2.5 x 3.5 inches or 64 x 89 mm, one set per person. Once Jean knows how many people are registered this number may change.

There is no official theme other than origami. Be creative! Your ATCs must include origami or be an origami folded card conforming to the standard dimensions.

Please include on the back of the card a label with this info:

  • Name of the artist
  • Location of the artist (City, State)
  • Title of the card
  • Email address
  • Edition number of card, e.g., 1/18, 2/18, 3/18 etc.
  • Date: June 2020
  • Optional: To respect the creativity of origami creators, you may want to include the model creator’s name.
  • Optional: Fifteenth ATC Swap @ OrigamiUSA UnConvention 2020

For the protection of your artwork please put each card in a plastic sleeve. Please package your cards in a re-sealable plastic bag with your name and contact information on it.

Cards must be received no later than Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Swapped cards will be returned no later than July 20, 2020.

Please include $5.00 for postage & padded envelope. Mail your ATC set (ideally in a padded envelope) to:
